"Fresh Starts for Stapled Hearts" - Day 1

Today begins the start of my yearlong creative project, an emo. a day. This effort was inspired by great conversation and gifted to me by someone incredible <3. I will be creating a daily piece of artwork guided by 365: A Daily Creativity Journal by Noah Scalin and documenting it here, even if it kills me.

For years I have been talking about how I need to start being creative again. And when my heart would swell in the right direction, I was able to take on large projects in record time, crafting calendars, mix CD's, books worth of lyrics, tattoo designs, wall art, etc... with vigor and passion. In my daily life though, I've become a commuter, a cable monkey, an email machine; and on some days I'm a worn out corporate robot with an auto-reply where my heart ought to be. I know I've let so much of what makes me passionate slip away by not being so actively creative, and then I was issued a challenge in the form of a perfectly selected Christmas gift.

So I here I stand on the precipice of 2012, staring straight down the barrel of something I've never even hoped to attempt before, and I couldn't be more excited. Please feel free to follow, encourage, critique or ignore me as I undertake this attempt. [ We all know I love the attention anyway ;) ]
In the spirit of the emo-kid theme, I started with a simple idea for day 1. Cheers!

  1. I really like how you shot this. On its own, the drawing is great. But with your hand showing your tattoo, it looks like it's finished. Very nicely done. I'm already jealous of you.
